MAIJA LISA CURRIE

Lyric Coloratura Soprano

"We have, in almost every way, an outstanding Manon, graced on Friday with an ideal interpretor of the title role.  Maija
Lisa Currie's flexible and rangy soprano handled Massenet's vocal challenges with aplomb.  Her looks embodied the parts
physical requirements.  And dramatically, she had the measure, too.  Currie could easily make Manon one of her key portrayals
as she moves forward with her career.  Good as she was, she did not put her Des Grieux in the shade...
The duos handling of the magnificent reunion scene at the seminary was incendiary in nature...
their concentration and their gifts of energy never flagged."

AS MANON

In 2006, Maija Lisa was brought in last minute as a professional guest to sing the title role in Massenet's Manon at Indiana University to replace the student soprano who was indisposed.  She had two days to refresh the five act French role, which she had not performed for five years, and learn the staging.  The following are video clips on youtube of that performance, which was directed by Michael Ehrman, and conducted by Ronald Zollman.
